No job is too small

I have done jobs for all kinds of businesses small and large. Sometimes when I go to a small business they always complain about how business is slow and no money. I went to this small eye glass place I  ForestHills they had a problem with their front door not closing all the way. So when I got there the manager said " I want you to change the hinges and the door closer. I said OK let me price it out for you. The price came out to $950 he almost had a heart attack. So I asked why change? He said another locksmith and come over and told him those things were not good.  I checked and nothing was broken so I told the manager that I will fix the problem for under $200.  He wouldn't believe me until I let him see the door closed.  He was happy and I was moving to another job. Sometimes it pays to get a second opinion.

Locksmith generations

Today I had a discussion with one of our technician who admits to being the best locksmith in Queens.  We were both on a job together, something happened where my colleague was quick to boast about how he has fifteen year experience and all that, so I said that's good and continued to do the job.  Some days went by and he was sent over to install a door closer, lo and be hold he comes back tithe shop and said "I am not ask for to do this type of closer". So my boss sent me and I was able to install it.  A few times we have sent him to jobs where he was not able to repair some old style locks and once again I had to rescue him.  The point I am trying to make is that in the locksmith industry there are a lot of individuals who boast about installing locks for so many years and this and that but when it comes down to the details they seem not to know anything about locksmithing at all. There is many people who can install locks such as door knobs, deadbolts, and such but being a locksmith is much more involved.
To be considered a master locksmith one must not only be able to rebuild, repair and install any type of lock but they also must be able to produce parts for locks that require rebuilding or repairing.  Now you must be thinking why should one spend all that time to either repair it rebuild when you can easily buy a cheap Chinese replica and install a brand new lock instead. While rebuilding a lock the other day I asked myself the same question and my answer to my question was that the lock that I am repairing will last ten times longer after my repair than the Chinese brand new lock.  I admit that our industrial out sourcing has made us into a community of consumers but I still believe in the American made product and I stand behind their quality and durability.  Today the most used American lock is the Medeco high security products made by Assa Abloy, I think Assa Abloy is the only remaining American company that is still here in the US.
In today's market there are a lot of locksmith wannabees.  They have saturated the industry with cheap Chinese knock offs and in the midst of it all they over charge by 70%.  So I asked myself why don't we start to do the same, we can make so much money. Well it's not always about the money. In the end of it all I told my colleague not to call himself a locksmith and call himself a lock installer because that's all he is.

Locksmiths do more than just install and fix locks. Our locksmiths are able to install new doors, window gates, iron security storm doors, cameras, buzzers and intercoms.  Many locksmiths are able to open safes, make and program keys for cars, change or repair ignition for cars and some locksmiths even do welding. For home security improvement don't hesitate to call your local locksmith.

Mery has big ideas.

In my line of work I am always meeting the most entresting people in NYC.  Today I was called to a job in Woodside  a very nice and sweet lady name Mery.   Mery removed an Adams Rite latch out of the front door of her home.  She took the latch out because the cylinder would spin out of position and wouldn't work afterwards.  Right away I knew it had go be the set screw, which holds the cylinder in place.  So I explained to her that the lock was OK but she needed a new cylinder because it was worn out.  While installing the lock and cylinder Mery and I started to converse about local business and what it takes to keep up with the new technology that is in the internet.
Mery and I started to talk about Peter's locksmith in Woodside, I told her that I took over Peters locksmith and now it's name is A Locksmith and Key Company Inc. Once she found out she started to share some great ideas about how I can increase my visibility in the neighborhood. As a locksmith I am all ears when it comes to increasing my business.  Mery is very smart I believe she will be the best person to increase my business.  A Locksmith and Key Company is a local locksmith company in Woodside Queens.
