I am a licensed Locksmith in New York. I work very hard to provide for my family. I have three kids and a wife. I am college educated and have over fifteen years experience. Being a locksmith is very rewarding both financially and work wise, but when things are rewarding there is always a sacrifice one has to make to be able to make it worth while. For me sometimes that means giving up on family time. There are days when I have a heavy work load for the day and end up getting home very late. I do take care of my kids when I get home. Sometimes because I'm dealing with invoices and proposals I do take up family time at home to do work related stuff and that sometimes gets in the way of family time.

Technology is moving very fast
In the very far past people used crude methods to lock their doors at night. In the cave man time I am certain they rolled a big stone in front of their #door and manged to keep predators out. As time went forward so did the science of #securing your property. In ancient Egypt they used intricate gear boxes and gear wheels that would lock rooms with rolling blocks of granite in front of the doors. Some of the systems used by the Egyptians were very complicated. Following the Egyptians the Aztecs and Mayans also used complicated maze type of puzzle pieces in order to secure rooms.
As far as History the Italians under the Roman Empire and also the Spanish created the first lockable lock with a key and installed it on a door.
Fast forward to today you will still find technology that was used in the past. For example the mortise lock which is used in 99% of the apartment doors is a copy of the skeleton key lock which was originally made in Spain, England, Italy, Germany and most other European countries. Today we have Medeco, Mul-t-lock and many other advanced systems, even though they can't surpass the security of the good old bit key locks. Recently there has been a shift into the usage of digital locks. In Queens, Brooklyn and Manhattan most commercial and some residential clients are starting to use digital locks.
